Elizabeth Short |
Something that took attention away from glamorous Hollywood movie stars was the Black Dahlia Murder. Elizabeth Short was a child from a broken home who dreamed, much as Norma Jean Baker did, of becoming a movie star to escape her mediocre existence. After moving to Los Angeles at the age of 19, and having modeling photos taken, "Beth" was dating numerous young men and generally enjoying her youth while lightly striving to hit the big time in Hollywood.
In January 15th 1947 young Elizabeth Short was found sawed in half and drained of blood in a vacant lot. The brutality of this crime hit Los Angeles hard. Suspects were many as young Beth had a lot of male admirers and dated often. Her killer was never brought to justice and the Black Dahlia murder is still considered to be unsolved, however, one of the most widely accepted versions of what happened to poor Elizabeth Short was reveled in the book, Black Dahlia Avenger.
